Searchlight Pharma is proud to support the Bursary Program at the School of Medicine at Queen’s University

Montreal, QC. Searchlight Pharma is proud to announce its Silver Level sponsorship of the 12th Annual Queen’s University Medical Student Bursary Charity Golf Tournament to be held on September 18, 2015. Over the past six years, Queen’s alumni, faculty, the pharmaceutical industry and community supporters have come together to raise funds for the bursary program and, with the help of provincial government matching of funds, have added an impressive $660,000 to the bursary fund over this time period. Searchlight Pharma is very pleased to be able to participate in 2015 and make a meaningful contribution to this important and worthwhile cause.

The School of Medicine at Queen’s University

Established over 150 years ago, the School of Medicine at Queen’s University aims to advance the tradition of preparing excellent physicians and leaders in healthcare by embracing a spirit of inquiry and innovation in education and research.

The School has an ongoing commitment to excellence in selected subspecialties, specialties, and in family medicine. The environment and the flexibility of their programs suit particularly well the innovative programs in community-oriented general surgery, general internal medicine, and family medicine which provide the breadth of training which is increasingly required for practice in rural northern, and small and medium-sized communities throughout Canada.

Sharing with the community and the need for bursary support

Canada continues to suffer from a severe shortage of doctors, with an estimated 3.6 million Canadians not having a regular doctor last year. In the province of Ontario alone, 23% of its roughly 20,000 practicing doctors will retire in the next 5 years. Queen’s University has increased enrolment in its medical school as one means to address the need for more doctors, and has made a commitment to ensure that deserving candidates for medical school admission will not be deterred by ever-increasing tuition fees. This places incredible importance on ensuring availability and access to financial support via bursaries administered by Queen’s University.

It’s an important value for Searchlight Pharma team to give back and support important educational and outreach initiatives such as this one, and so we are very happy to partner and share with the broader community at The School of Medicine at Queen’s University. Contributing to the Bursary Program at The School of Medicine at Queen’s is an excellent way for us to support education, healthcare, and healthier communities, and is a badge of honour for our entire team.
